On March 20th 1964, the news program on national TV in Norway showed how the streets in Tromso were cleared for snow. The amount of snow in those days were probably equal to today, but the machinery they used made it look like there were mountains of snow in the main street, Storgata, in Tromso.
The video below shows a tractor struggling to clear the sidewalk while a truck clears the main street. Without modern equipment like snowblowers and bigger wheel loaders, they had to shovel the snow in front of the vehicles creating mountains of snow in the process. After moving the snow across the entire main street, they could finally dump it into the sea. Not being concerned with modern days environmental regulations, demanding the snow to be transported to designated areas.
